So, not necessarily food related, per se, but Thrillist, a national purveyor of local goings-on (very technical description), has announced a new contest that has the country duking it out for the title of best bar in the nation. While most bars are not noted for their culinary wonders, they do provide some mighty tasty treats, some more adventurous than others, so therefore they qualify for a mention here on delectabelle. That’s my story and I’m sticking too it. The truth is, as a naturally competitive person, I can’t resist a good challenge and want to recruit my fellow Washingtonians to get in the game and vote for the best local contenders. Plus, it’s just plain fun and gives you a little something to look forward to in addition to the March Madness. Let’s make like Emeril and kick it up a notch. Let’s aim for March Insanity!
Each week, one bar will work its way through the bracket. The competition consists of 16 bars, in 32 cities…but there can only be one winner folks!
First up for DC is Bar Louie (701 7th Street) and Ventnor Sports Cafe (2411 18th Street), and then the site cycles you through a list of bars in the District that are matched up for you to choose from. So think long and hard about which bar is your fav, whether its for the unique cocktails, best beer, best burger, or friendliest wait staff…then get on to the site and vote. Don’t think too long though, as the deadline for the nomination round is March 17th…tomorrow!
